This post is all about what not to bring to college!
I swear trying to figure out what to pack for your college dorm room can be SO hard. But finding out what not to bring to college can be even harder.
Everyone around you is telling you what you need and giving their advice but you should be taking advice from someone who is in college (aka me).
These 13 items should be crossed off your college packing list asap.
What Not To Bring To Your College + Dorm Room
1. School Supplies
There are a lot of items you need to have for school but having markets or a whole school supplies list is not one of them.
Just have a few notebooks, a computer, and a pen (or pencil). Then, you will be all set.

2. Candles
Most universities do not allow you to have candles in your dorm room. They are a fire hazard so do not bring any unless you plan on hiding them!
3. A Tv
I bought a Tv or my first year in college and I used it about 4 times.
I recommend not bringing one your first year, it allows you to get out of your dorm room and find other entertainment. You can always use your phone when needed or buy a Tv if you end up wanting one.
4. Old Highschool Apparel
I know you want to show people where you went to school but that’s in the past.
Do not bring your old high school apparel to College unless you are using them for pajamas.

5. Large Sets Of Kitchen Wear
You really only need 1 cup, 1 bowl, 1 of each silverware, and a LOT of Tupperware!
I found this one on Amazon that you may also like!
You can also find our dorm room essentials here.
6. Printers
Your college has printers in their library you can use for free! Do not bring it a printer – it will only take up space.
7. Lots Of Throw Pillows
Your bed is twin sized. Meaning you barely have enough space for yourself, let alone 6 throw pillows.
Just have a boyfriend pillow, 3 normal ones, and 2 throw pillows!
8. A Large Trash Can
Buy a normal bathroom-sized trash can – not a kitchen-sized one.
You may think you have a lot of trash to throw away but when you end up eating most of your meals in the dining hall, trash becomes a lot less.
9. Seasonal Clothes
From one clothes lovin’ girl to another, do not bring all your clothes.
You will have room for maybe half of them. Just pack your summer ones and leave your winter ones at home. Then at Thanksgiving or Christmas switch them out!
10. Reading Books
The likelihood of you having enough room for a bookcase is very very low.
Bring a few books but nothing more than 10 books.
Instead, download Kindle unlimited on your phone and read them there. It is about $5 a month and you can sign up through this link.
11. Too Many Shoes
You will not use all of your shoes.
You will have one pair that is your ‘frat’ shoes and maybe three others.
Figure out your top 5 shoes and bring those instead, at least for the first semester.
12. Suitcases
If your parents are dropping you off at your college dorm, send your suitcases back with them.
The suitcases will take up too much room in your tiny space.
13. Your Nik’Naks
Do not bring every single thing in your family home. You will be back there for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the whole summer.
Figure out what you want there MOST and bring those.
