Cause how would you know the things you need for an apartment if you never had an apartment before?
Moving into an apartment is so exciting but can be hectic when you don’t know what you need. So after moving three times in the past three years, there are some things that you will need that didn’t even cross my mind the first time.
Here are 17 things you need for an apartment that you wouldn’t think of.
17 Things You Need For An Apartment That You Wouldn’t Think Of
1. tool kit
Every apartment owner needs some type of tool kit.
I recently moved into my new apartment and I was shocked how many times I had to use it. Either by setting up decorations or screwing the couch together!
2. my FAVORITE toilet cleaner
I HATE cleaning the toilet and this wand allows you to not even touch the dirty toilet. You just put it on the inside and it cleans with every rinse.
Meaning, it lasts for months and doesn’t require constant cleaning.
3. safe
So many people forget to buy a safe for their apartment and wait until it’s too late.
if you have a roommate or nowhere to hide your valuables, I highly recommend buying a safe! It’s perfect for storing expensive jewelry, cash, passports, etc.
4. Cleaning devices
This is by far the best (and cheapest way) to make your apartment smell fresh and clean.
You just press it and the scent starts to go everywhere. You don’t have to plug it in and these can last for 2-3 months!
5. Furniture mark-up markers
These markers are a must-have especially if you are renting your apartment. You just color over any scratch or mark you make on the furniture.
They’re under $10 and can be used on tv stands, beds, nightstands, cabinets, etc.
6. Silicone Faucet Mat
This is one of my biggest pet peeves in any kitchen.
You need to have a place for your sponge and soap to go, otherwise, it all collects by the faucet. That can end up causing mold and other bacteria to grow. This mat easily attaches to your sink and stops that from happening.
7. Water filter
Most apartments, especially if this is your first one, don’t have great-quality water. So you can clean your water with this large filter. It comes in two different sizes but this one is perfect if you have roommates.
8. Kitchen utensil set
This was one of the most annoying purchases (in my opinion) to buy. I bought the pieces separately cause I honestly didn’t want to spend the money on a set but now I spent WAY more than I would have if I just bought the set.
9. Dryer balls
Never buy dryer sheets again with these wool dryer balls. They’re non-toxic and eliminate static.
You can find a pack of 6 on Amazon for less than $15!
10. Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
This vacuum is so freakin amazing.
It works on carpets, hardwood, couches, etc.
11. under sink mat
I’m terrified of my sink leaking so this is definitely a product I use every single day! If water does leak, then I know this will catch it and it won’t mold!
12. shower curtain
I recently bought this shower curtain AND FELL IT LOVE. It’s made of water-resistant material and looks so cute in my bathroom.
13. food lid organizer
One of the most annoying things about meal prep and honestly cooking in general is these plastic containers. I LOVE them but sometimes you can’t find the lid and after a long week, I just want to throw them in the cabinet. BUT with this organizer, I can just throw them in here and grab them when I need them.
14. dish scrub
This may just be me, but I hate cleaning the dishes. So I’m always trying to find the best scrubs to use and this one has been fantastic!
15. mattress pad
Some apartments come furnished and they do not go out of their way to buy a comfy mattress! But instead of spending hundreds on a new mattress, you can just buy a mattress topper.
16. kitchen sink organizer
This kitchen sink organizer is perfect if you are like me and hate how it sits either in the dirty sink or right next to the faucet. I love it and it makes doing the dishes easier!
17. food containers
I wasn’t going to include this but as soon as I saw this, I knew this was an epic deal! Amazon has this 40-piece storage container for under $40 (that’s less than $1 for each container!).
If I didn’t already have containers, I would buy these asap.
