It can be tricky to know exactly what to pack for the college dorm but we got you covered! Our current college student spills the beans on exactly what a college packing list for girls SHOULD look like in this day and age.
So take a deep breath because we have taken the stress off your plate!
College Packing List For Girls | 20+ Dorm Room Essentials For Girls
1. twin xl mattress
If you have seen my post before, you will know that on every dorm packing post, I make sure I post this mattress. My sister, roommate, and I all have it and LOVE it.
2. twins sheet set
The best part (for me at least) about going to college was getting to decorate your dorm room. So you are going to want to buy new sheets to match your style.
The sheet set linked below is the exact one I used and it comes in manyyyy colors.
3. clothes hangers
I have these high on the list because every place runs out of them asap. So if you think you are just going to wait to buy these at Target, I unfortunately know that they sell out. So buy these before you even leave!
4. small Keurig coffee machine
This coffee machine is the PERFECT size for the dorm room. It’s small and compact. Plus you and your roommate can split the cost if you both are coffee lovers!
5. quiet air purifier
The dorms rooms are amazing because you are with people new to college and you’re around people who want to meet new people.
However… the worst part, is once someone is sick, the whole floor and even the building gets sick. So protect yourself with an air purifier.
6. small trash can
This one is pretty self-explanatory.
You are going to have trash in the dorm room but you don’t have enough to need a large trash can. So just get a small one.
7. surge power Extender
Most dorm rooms don’t have enough outlets to charge all of your devices so you are going to need some time of power extender.
8. shower shoes
The showers are nasty so please do yourself a favor and get some shower shoes.
9. shower caddy
If you or your daughter have to use the communal bathrooms, she is going to need a shower caddy.
It allows her to carry and store all of his bathroom essentials in one hand.
10. plastic kitchen set
You are going to want to have food in your room either for late nights or when your sick so don’t forget to buy some plastic dishes.
11. adhesive wall mount
This sticks to the wall so it can easily hold your phone, headphones, remote, glasses, etc.
12. shoe organizer
Even though I don’t recommend bringing lots and lots of shoes, you can get them from Amazon.
I only brought four shoes so I didn’t need this but this one has great reviews.
13. leggings organizer
I wish I had this freshman year because how smart?!
You most likely have multiple pairs of leggings and this helps store them without taking up too much space.
14. set of towels
Every girl needs a new set of towels. These from Amazon are the ones I used and I have no complains.
They also come in multiple colors.
15. 39-piece toolset
So many people forget to pack a tool kit but it comes in handy.
My dad bought me one for college and I used it whenever I had a problem (and it can teach them a lot of great skills).
16. hanging shelves
These are great if you plan to bring multiple shoes. They hang right in the closet and take up just a little vertical space.
17. Storage cart
These are insanely popular right now with college students because they offer so much space so every girl has one.
Some of my friends use them for makeup, books, or clothes.
18. closet organizers
The closest are SO small so any type of organizer is a must.
19. desk lamp
If she has a roommate, a desk lamp is a must-have.
She can do his homework at any time without having to wake up his roommate by turning on all the lights.
20. Bedside shelf
These are nice cause you can have your water, phone, and anything else you need right next to your bed instead of having to jump off the bed.
21. First-Aid Kit
It’s better to be safe than sorry right?
22. fridge
Your son is going to need a mini fridge. My roommate kept using mine cause she didn’t think she would need it. However, in the dorms, you don’t have access to your own kitchen or a place to keep cold stuff (unless you have your own fridge).
There is also a really cool mini fridge organizer you can find here.
23. Vacuum
I love this vacuum below because it’s super easy to work and cheap.
We also have a post on cleaning products that students need to have in the dorm room here.
24. Dorm Headpost
Okay so this one technically is not an “essential,” but it will save her head.
The last thing anyone wants is to lie down to go to bed and slam their head against the concrete wall.
25. makeup vanity
Just like the one above this one is technically not an “essential,” but she will LOVE you for it. It allows her to do her makeup perfectly even if the dorm room has bad lighting.
26. desk organizer
This desk organizer is perfect for the girlies who want to stay on track in college and keep everything organized. Truly perfection for college.
