If this is your first college move-in or your second time, we are here to help you. It can be scary especially if you have no idea what to expect or even what to do once you arrive on campus.
8 Essential Tips For College Move-In Day | College Dorm Room 2022
1. Pack As Early As You Can
Save yourself time and stress from late packing. Many students (like myself) leave packing to the last minute. You will end up forgetting items you needed and have to spend money buying them at a local Target.
By packing everything early, you can relax and just focus on spending time with your friends and family.
2. Wear The Right Attire
Do not be like me – I ended up wearing brand new shoes and ended the move-in with pain in my feet.
Many people forget how much moving is involved with moving into a college dorm. You assume moving in will be easy and there will be an elevator (older dorm buildings do not have elevators).
It is also important to remind you that most buildings will have their AC off and the doors propped open all day. This means, your building will be either very cold or very hot depending on where the University is located.
3. Hydrate & Eat
When moving in, it can be very easy to forget to eat or wait for another time to drink water. This is a very bad idea. Staying hydrated especially if your college is hot, can make the more-in day less stressful and bearable in the heat.
4. Create A List Of Everything You Need
Creating a list is an easy way to stay on top of move-in day. You can write down exactly what you need for college and check it off when you have it packed.
If you do not want to create one yourself, I recommend checking out the ones on Pinterest here.

5. Read Your University Emails & Website
Your University will be sending you emails throughout the entire month of August giving you information involving move-in day.
Those are very important to read because you will find information on timing, parking, and even Wifi.

6. Know The Materials You Need
We all know to pack our Computers and pillows but what about scissors?
In my first college move-in day, I had to buy scissors and Trash bags at the local store. Instead of spending money on that, I could have brought them with me from my house (please learn from my mistakes lol).
Go through your packing list and see what you will need to unpack those things. Are you planning on bringing a fridge? For instance, if you do not plan on bringing that to your dorm room by hand, think about bringing a folding dolly.
7. Bring People With You
The last thing you want when moving somewhere is to do it by yourself. Ask friends and family members for help. If you feel bad for asking – tell them you will take them out to eat afterward.
You will only have a certain amount of time to move in and you do not want to waste that because it is only you.
8. Remove Packaging
Many of the items you buy for your dorm room will have packing they come in. Save space in your dorm and remove the packaging before loading the items in your car.
