Wondering what you’re going to need for sorority recruitment but more importantly what you are going to need to have in your bag? Then you’ll love this post on sorority rush essentials to have in your bag.
Many schools do not let you bring your bag into school due to the possibility of bribes. You won’t be able to take anything from the room either – including snacks.
However, having a bag full of needed stuff as you move from room to room can make sorority recruitment a breeze.
15 Sorority Rush Essentials You Need To Have In Your Rush Bag
1. Rush Bag
Obviously, you are going to need a bag if you are going through sorority rush. We listed our viewer’s favorites below.
2. Flat Shoes
If you don’t want to buy anything for recruitment, still buy flat shoes.
By round 3, your feet are going to be killing you and begging for some flat shoes to walk in. I put my Birkenstocks in my bag and changed them after each sorority I visited. I even had multiple other PNMs tell me how they wish they brought theirs.

3. Water Bottle
You are going to be dehydrated after talking to a ton of girls. Your mouth gets dry and you’re going to want to keep a water bottle to sip on after each chapter.
4. Portable Charger
Sorority recruitment will last hours and that’s if the chapters like you. After each round, you are going to rate your choices on your phone and have to take notes on your phone.
I’ve seen some people recommend bringing a note pad but that can make the sister feel like you aren’t engaged in the conversation so I recommend not doing that and just bringing a portable charger.
5. Bandaids
PACK BANDAIDS!
I had blisters on day 2 and I changed into Birkenstocks between each chapter (bandaids on my toes and on my ankles). I was not the only one and you won’t be either.
Just packing 1 or 2 even if you don’t think you will need them.
6. Snacks
You get so hungry after the constant conversations. Most sorority recruitments give you an hour break and that’s barely enough time to go to Mcdonald’s and drive back.
So, pack snacks to hold you over.
7. Portable Fan
If you are going through recruitment in the spring just ignore this one.
BUT if you are going through recruitment in the fall, you are going to need a fan. It gets so hot and your anxiety is through the roof. Even if you don’t think you will be hot, a nice cold breeze could help calm your nerves.
8. Make-up Bag
You are going to want to touch up your makeup after every couple of chapters. Most schools only give you about 15 minutes to go to each room (they are nowhere near each other).
Meaning, you won’t have time to search your bag for all of your makeup products.
9. Deodorant/Perfume
This one is pretty self-explanatory. We want you to smell good all day.
10. Small Mirror
This essential is for your makeup. You may not be able to go to the bathroom or find a mirror to do your makeup.
Having a small mirror will let you touch up your makeup anywhere and everywhere.
11. Hairties
Depending on the hairstyle you chose, you want to make sure to pack extra hair ties. The last thing you want is to have to scurry around asking other PNMs if they have an extra.
12. Mints/Gum
As someone who was on the other side of recruitment, please pack some mints.
Sisters talk about whose breath smelled bad and we don’t want that happening to you.
13. Waterproof Mascara
I have seen many girls cry due to sorority recruitment.
Crying is natural and perfectly okay but just incase you do, buy some waterproof mascara.
14. Pretty Lipgloss
Again, you will be talking to a lot of people in a short amount of time.
Just like the gum, flat shoes, and water bottle, you will want to reapply your lipgloss after each couple of rounds.
15. Mini Umbrella
I recommend a mini umbrella if there is a possibility of rain. Recruitment does not move its schedule for rain and trust me you’re going to want an umbrella if it does.
