This blog is all about spreading awareness about what college is actually like and what is a better way of doing that than interviewing current college students.
For this week’s post, I interviewed one of my very good friends, Katie Levis, who talks about everything college. She is currently a college sophomore and went to college hours away from home.
Before we jump into her college journey, let’s take a step back and talk about her high school achievements. Her high school ended abruptly due to the Covid-19 pandemic. She then proceeded to finish high school with a 3.4 GPA and was a part of multiple clubs.
What Is Your Major?
She is currently undecided and elaborated that she did not want to waste time and money picking a major she was not fully decided on. At university, a student can wait to decide on a major until their sophomore year without any issues.
One of the hardest parts about not picking a major in Katie’s eyes is the fact that you do not have a definite path, and feeling like you are not working towards something can be very unmotivating.
Do You Have A Job?
Katie spent about 10 hours a week on school work and wanted to focus on the academic challenges, making friends, and navigating a new experience; before committing to a job.
How Did You Make Friends In College?
With living in the dorm, Katie was constantly around people and told us that she talks to everyone she saw. In doing that, she was able to make a group of friends in the first weeks of college.
When asked what she would recommend to another college freshman about making friends, she recommended not being scared to talk to people because everyone is in a new environment.
What Would You Tell Someone Coming Into College?
“Enjoy it. Only you can make yourself happy.”
What Was The Scariest Part Of College That Most People Don’t think about?
The scariest part of college is not being able to tell the real side of people and not just the front they are putting up. Finding out who is fake or who is just trying to reinvent themselves. It is hard finding out who is actually real or just needs a friend to not be lonely.
What Is Something You Learned Outside Of The Classroom?
Always make your bed. Katie always makes her bed because it makes her feel so much better. Her mindset is that if you didn’t accomplish anything that day you still get to sleep in a bed that is clean and made.
