If you are a college Female or someone who lives in a college town. Please read this because, with all the shit that is going on, we need to be safe. You are in a college town that is anything but safe, with barely anyone who you can fully trust. You need personal safety devices now.

Personal Safety Devices

I am currently a sophomore who lives in a big city with a college town connected. The amount of stuff I have seen and heard about increases every day. However, that does not mean you should lock yourself in the house. I get it – the thrill of going out at the last minute with some random plans your roommate has. It’s fun but as women, we need to protect ourselves. Especially, after the Idaho murders or Ted Buddies Campus spree, we need self-defense tools more than ever.

Personal Safety Devices Every College Female Student Needs

1. Door lock.

Personal Safety Devices

You need to lock your door but more importantly, you need it to be safe against an intruder. Having something that can slide under your door or between your door will set off an alarm in the middle of the night. The one listed above you can find on Amazon for about $14.00. It is portable meaning you can take it when you travel or stay at another place.

2. Self-defense set.

This self-defense tool, with all 9 pieces, will cost you about $50.00 without tax. Honestly, I will be shocked if you can find something like this cheaper that you can carry in your purse and looks cute.

3. Alexa point camera.

Personal Safety Devices

The Alexa point camera is perfect for leaving in your room at all times. It connects to your phone allowing you to check the cameras even when you are not home. This is perfect for seeing what is going on in your house/room. Plus it’s only $30, get it.

4. Get a window lock.

This one may sound stupid but is needed. Intruders don’t just try to unlock your front door and then leave once they realize it is locked. They will check the windows and find any way of entry. This is a perfect way of blocking your window and keeping you safe even through the night. The window locks attached are $15 with over 5,000 reviews.

5. Bear mase over pepper spray.

Bear mase is much stronger than your typical pepper spray. Buy a can and keep it on your nightstand. You can find this at your local auto zone or on the Amazon link above.

6. Use your acrylics.

If you are like me and spend way too much money on nails, you now have a reason to not feel guilty about it. Your acrylics are sharp (especially if you buy the cat shape). Use them to scratch their eyes and they will not want to be near you.

7. Check your car!

This is not a personal safety device but wanted you to be aware. ALWAYS stand about 10ft from your car and check it! Look under your car or next to your car for people. As soon as you unlock your car, someone can be on the other side waiting to get in. Sex traffics love to hide under cars especially if they see you are alone.

8. Have a CODE WORD!

This is very important to keep you safe. If you live with roommates, establish a code word or something that you can text them for help. I have it on my phone that if I text SOS, it will automatically correct to “This is not a joke. Please check my location and call the police. I am in danger.”

Steps on how to do this:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Go to the keyboard setting.
  3. Find text replacement.
  4. Hit the + icon on the top right and write your message.

9. Buddy system.

The buddy system is now a universal code for women. Never go anywhere alone, especially at night. I know it sucks but be safe rather than sorry. No matter who you are with or where you’re going, just bring a friend. If someone is wanting you, they want you at night.
