Do you want to experience Barbie Land for yourself? Or maybe want to take your family? Read on to find out exactly what it’s like and what to expect at the Malibu Barbie Cafe.
Before we get into the Barbie Cafe extravaganza, I wanted to first introduce myself to ya. I am Alli, one of the lifestyle writers on We’reAdulting so you will occasionally see my stuff on college, apartments, and travel. You can actually read my recent post on my trip to Miami here. It was on this trip that I decided to go to the Malibu Barbie Cafe but they have many pop-up locations around the United States you can go to.
If you’re like me, you watched Barbie and instantly wanted to go to Barbie Land. Either from the escape of patriarchy or the time off from work. So let’s go ahead and get into what to expect.
What To Expect At The Malibu Barbie Cafe
You first need to make a reservation to go, as walk-ins are not allowed. However, after you do, just walk in and show a Ken (or Allen) you’re reservation and they will direct you to a table.
Here’s a photo of what you should see:
You will then be directed to your table where a Barbie or Ken will come to your table saying, “Hi Barbie.” In your reservation, before you arrive, you must pick your food option and cake pop flavor. So the waitress/waiter will just be asking about your drink order. You can order Coke, sprite, water, coffee, alcoholic drinks, etc.
All of the food was made (at the Miami location) by a Master Chef Finalist, and the burger I ordered was very good. I also spied at a few tables and the other food I saw looked very appealing. So I don’t believe you can go wrong with what you order.
There were also people of many ages (and genders!!) so don’t be afraid to go! Truly everyone was welcomed so bring the whole family to enjoy the experience.
History Of Barbie
My favorite part of this whole experience was how the decorations were also educational. You can see the history of Barbie in the picture above! Plus other cute decorations like below.
Honorable Decor Mentions…
You can take pictures of and with all of these decorations so make sure to bring your camera and throw on a pink shirt! You can also recreate an outfit from the Barbie movie with our recent post you can read here.
Activities
The main activity at this pop-up was skating (also called “Disco Skating”). The skates cost $1 and all of the proceeds go to a charity. However, you can bring your own and skate for free!
The Shop
I was very pleasantly surprised at the prices of the items they were selling. The shirts cost about $40 and everything else was a little less than that. Normally, pop-up shops have crazy mark-up prices so I thought this was very well. I bought 2 shirts and 1 hat for about $97.
You can get a Barbie, Shirt, Hat, Magazine, Book, Journal, Tote Bags, and more!
Final Thoughts & FAQs
I absolutely LOVED this experience. Seeing all the Barbies and Kens come together to skate and take pictures of everything was very refreshing. Plus everyone was wearing pink and it felt like a solute to women everywhere.
The total cost of this experience was less than $200 – which included the food, drinks, and the clothes I bought from the shop. So although it’s not as much as I’ve seen, it’s important to look at your budget! Kids food is cheaper but not by a lot (about $10 less).
The Malibu Barbie Cafe works with many allergies and even asked me if I had any, so don’t let that completely stop you from going. You can also call the venue as well to ask!
Let me know in the comment’s if you have any questions! In the meantime, here are some more photos (I took a lot and need someone to see them 😭).
